卢西亚恩是一位健康状况每况愈下的戏剧演员。他在舞台上忘词，日常生活中感到困惑和格格不入。最终，他决定结束自己的演艺生涯，不久后搬进了一家养老院。在这个新环境里，这位年迈的老人深深怀念他已故的妻子。他开始做一些似乎变得真实的噩梦。在其中一个梦境中，他发现了一条通往一个充满魔幻色彩的世界的通道，这个世界与他的剧院有着迷惑性的相似之处。
